Stirred By The Scriptures

Take a Look

Posted on January 25, 2010 at 9:21am.

Knowing what is in my heart requires me to look there and more than just once in a while. This is what God says to Jeremiah: “Break up your unplowed ground… Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your hearts.” (Jer. 4:3,4) My prayer this morning is we will have the courage to look at our hearts and enter into the battle.

Reminder

Just a reminder that winter isn’t over and that this weekend is the elders’ coat drive. I went through my closet and found two coats to donate. I would encourage you to do the same. All weekend at all services you can drop them off and next week the elders will be distributing them. It is a simple yet effective way to give to those in need.

Relationships

Handling relationships is a messy business. It involves so many moving parts, my perspective the other person’s point of view, my feelings and their feelings. Yet how I handle them is of utmost importance to God. It will either show the power of his Spirit working in me or it will look no different than the world’s point of view. Make no mistake however it is messy.

The Gospel

I am an evangelical.  By saying this I simply mean I believe the gospel, it has nothing to do with politics.  The gospel, the good news that God has provided salvation through his Son Jesus.  Listen to how one person describes it in their prayer:

“Blessed Lord Jesus, no human mind could conceive or invent the gospel. Acting in eternal grace, you are both its messenger and its message, lived out on earth through infinite compassion, applying your life to insult, injury, death, that I might be redeemed, ransomed, freed.”

Thank you Lord for the gospel.

New Song

Posted on January 19, 2010 at 9:41am.

I have found myself reading and re-reading these verses from the 96 Psalm as we have entered into 2010.

“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”

We are called to proclaim his salvation and show his glory wherever and whenever.
