Patience

I had lunch recently with a friend who is the very definition of patience. In fact i think his face could be in the dictionary as a picture of patience. We often think of patience as it relates to driving or standing in line to check out of a store but this friend is teaching about patience as it relates to the gospel. There is a need to be patient as we seek to introduce Jesus and the life he offers to people who are sceptical of anything religious. “Drive by” evangelism is risky at best and damaging at worst, Developing trust and a friendship well that takes patience and is in short supply.

Waiting and Listening

These are two words and more significantly two actions that escape most of my days. I hate to wait and my life is usually filled with noise. However scripture reminds me, even commands me to wait on the Lord and to listen to his voice. Another way to put it - slow down, stop and be quiet.

View a Different Way

Coming to be a follower of Jesus means many things, one of which is - I view life from a different perspective.  Paul speaks about this in II Corinthians when he says, “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view.” What does it look like to no longer see people the way the world does? It is so easy to look at people based on what divides us rather than what we have in common in Christ. I might see the world around me in a radical new way it I viewed from the gospel’s point of view.

Connected

The world we live in is more connected than it has ever been. We have the web and cell phones. We text and tweet. But I can’t help but wonder are we connected in ways that our souls were designed to be? God designed us relational beings and it is imprinted into our souls. So as you text and tweet and connect to the electronic world we live in - don’t forget the design that will not change.

Compelled

“For Christ’s love compels us…”  Those are Paul’s words in II Corinthians and I believe they represent the highest motivation a Christ follower can have. Not duty or obligation but to do something out of the love Christ has shown me. Being more Christlike then is grounded in falling more in love with the one who loved me.
